Following a very successful ‘Drive for Results’ programme with all 170 Year 11 students at Herts and Essex High School in Bishop’s Stortford, many parents turned up in the evening for a ‘Parent Power’ workshop. They were joined by teachers from this and from neighbouring schools.
To start off the evening, parents were invited to list and discuss with each other the most common distractions their children face, which get in the way of studying and revising. Facebook, computer, phone and friends (and even ‘Friends’ the TV series) were some of the most common.
The rest of the workshop was spent looking at ways parents can help their child with their GCSE preparations.
