Celebrating Diversity: Going Beyond Exam Results

Posted in News & Press  ·  July 5th 2016

Dear Students,

As you eagerly open your envelopes to reveal your end-of-KS2 test results, we want to take a moment to celebrate your achievements and commend you for your dedication and perseverance throughout this challenging week. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

However, as we reflect on these test results, it’s important to remember that they only capture a fraction of who you are as individuals. The standardised tests you’ve taken may measure certain academic abilities, but they fail to recognize the full extent of your unique talents, interests, and experiences.

The truth is, the people who create and score these tests don’t have the privilege of knowing you as we do – your teachers, your families, and your communities. They don’t see the countless ways in which you shine bright beyond the confines of a classroom.

They don’t see the bilingual students who effortlessly switch between languages, the budding musicians who create melodies that stir the soul, or the artists who bring beauty to the world with every stroke of their brush. They don’t witness the athletes who push their limits on the field, the storytellers who captivate audiences with their imagination, or the caregivers who selflessly support their loved ones.

They don’t see the kindness, the empathy, and the resilience that define you as individuals. They don’t see the friendships you nurture, the dreams you chase, or the love you share with those around you.

So, as you reflect on your test scores, remember that they only tell a small part of your story. They may measure academic achievement, but they don’t measure your character, your creativity, or your potential to make a difference in the world.

As our current UK Secretary of State for Education, Nadhim Zahawi, embarks on his journey, let us hope that he embraces these sentiments and recognizes the importance of celebrating the diverse talents and abilities of every student.

So, here’s to you – each and every one of you – for being smart in so many different ways.

With pride and admiration,
